Annual Mayoral Luncheon - 2008 Invite

The 2008 Mayoral Luncheon was one of my most exciting projects. In January 2008, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter was enaugerated, following one of the most hotly contested primary races in Philadelphia history.

After years of city control in the hands of Mayor John Street, the voters' message was clear, the city wanted change. This was essentially Micahel Nutter's campaign theme. His unoffical motto was "A New Day for Philadelphia." And it was this motto that I drew inspiration from when designing the theme for this invite.

The challenge was how to make the look for "A New Day" not be cheesy and all sunsets and rainbows. I also wanted to illustrate the dark times that we were moving away from - because THAT is why the voting turnout was so high. We needed to move away from the last decade of rule. We needed to get out of the dark, and this is what Michael Nutter delivered.

The far right panel is a registration form which tears off, and folds neatly into the included RSVP envelope.
